Synopsis

Red Embedded are looking to recruit an IT Manager. The business has demanding IT needs that are growing. You will be Looking for challenge and will develop and grow with the company. We operate a heterogeneous environment with Linux and Windows clients. Currently predominantly Linux servers offering a increasing suit of in-house hosted and running services.

Red Embedded was founded in 2003 and has grown to over 50 staff who work across a number of areas including an Engineering Consultancy, Embedded Product Design and Tele-Medical Services. The Company is privately owned and is profitable.

We have recently moved to new premises and have made substantial investment in our IT infrastructure as part of this move. You will enjoy an exciting working environment where you will a key part of all of our activity.

Reporting to a group director, the successful candidate will :

  • Lead 'hands-on' the support of a highly IT literate user community.
  • Lead the development of diverse high availability infrastructure that includes software development tools , project management tools , administrative and financial tools as well as other services.
  • Be responsible for motivating and building a team to provide essential and business critical services.
  • Identify, negotiate and manage external suppliers for the supply of services and equipment .

You will be goal driven showing tenacity and taking responsibility to complete tasks to the highest standards to meet business requirements.

Responsibility
Your responsibilities will be ;
  • To ensure maximum availability of computer systems throughout the Company.
  • The provision of IT infrastructure services including desktop applications, Local and / or Wide area networks, IT security and telecommunications.
  • The development and implementation of new systems.
  • To manage the IT department including staff appraisals and career development.
  • The Procurement of IT hardware, software and maintenance.
  • To assess risk, and develop contingency / disaster recovery plan.
  • To develop and control the IT security policy.
  • To provide information to senior management regarding all aspects of the IT provision.
Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of the following technologies is desirable;

  • LDAP based sign-on
  • Road Warrior VPN (OpenVPN)
  • Site-to-site (IPSec)
  • Email using the IMAP standard to deliver to heterogeneous clients, web email, mobile with SPAM controls
  • Version control systems (CVS, SVN, Mercurial)
  • TRAC
  • SMB and NFS based file shares
  • Network design.
  • Support of Windows clients
  • Groupware solutions.
  • Telecoms solutions
  • SIP based VoIP delivery
  • Mobile phone provision
Communication & Interpersonal Skills

You will be able to engage with internal and external peers both in written and verbal communication.

You will have the ability to engage with technically adept customers ,development partners and users

Experience

You will have demonstrable experience in a leadership role Ideally for a small to medium scale enterprise. Preferably your experience will have been gained in an R&D focused organisation.

You will be able to show a progression of responsibility within your career to date and will be able to describe how you have actively built your skill set to meet new challenges.

Experience in IT infrastructure planning and development is essential.

Experience of managing budgets is desirable.
