Product Development Roadmaps

Red Embedded Design’s roadmap is driven by the requirements for fixed line telephone products, mobile products and set top box videophone products.

We have a clear direction and development path for each sector. We do, however, have the technical expertise to remain flexible and can quickly react to emerging consumer trends and technological developments. Our roadmap is partner driven and we will certainly prioritise features which customers request.

Portable Products

Roadmap for Portable Products (VPHS)

The roadmap for handheld products focuses on implementing features requested by our customers. Our plans reflect current and future consumer trends to integrate further communications and entertainment functionality into our product range.

Features under consideration include:

  • Link to DECT functionality for use with audio handsets in the home
  • Add software features including UPnP for access to PC content
  • Enable Java to take advantage of mobile phone applications
  • Enable Flash Macromedia to extend the range of viewable web content
  • Provide for games, and applications such as diary, draw or paint
  • Connection accessories like car battery charger, USB adapter for mobile broadband and others
  • Implement new components such as improved screens and cameras
  • Provide improved user interface using new touch control techniques

The roadmap is customer driven and prioritises the requirements of our distribution and operator customers.

Fixed Videophones

Roadmap for Fixed Videophone Products (VPHS)

While the current focus among younger users is towards portable devices, we believe there will remain a solid requirement for fixed line CPE devices with videophone capability.

Accordingly we have a development roadmap from the successful Videophone1000 range and anticipate operators to require custom products with specific feature sets which we can provide. In particular we are working on:

  • Improved camera and screen resolution and larger screen sizes using the capabilities of the daVinci processor and its successors
  • Business phones with a full range of call management and messaging services as well as domestic phones
  • Bridging to DECT functionality for compatibility to existing audio handsets in home
  • Improved network operation protocols to meet large operator requirements

Our customers’ requirements are prioritised within the overall roadmap.

Set Top Videophones

Roadmap for Set Top Videophone Products (VPTV)

Red Embedded Design’s very first videophone product was integrated in a set top box form factor. It remains our expectation that a number of major operators will require this product type either for niche or volume markets. With our VPTV products, operators’ customers can take advantage of videotelephony communications options from their triple play service provider and at minimal additional cost.

Among other requirements, Red Embedded Design has also developed a set top box product specifically designed for the elderly and infirm. We believe Telehealth will be an important and growing market segment with specific needs and requirements.
