As a practising consultant I am excited about the opportunities that the Buying Solutions agreement will offer patients. I have seen first hand how technologies can help my diabetic patients live independently and safely whilst effectively managing their health and wellbeing. Video offers us a real opportunity to promote self-care.”

Applications for hospitals
Visual care technology offers the opportunity for hospitals to achieve both high levels of patient care and real cost efficiency. As part of the Red Embedded Group, a leading provider of embedded video technology, we provide a complete visual care service using tried and tested video conferencing technology that's easy to use, and cost effective and quick to implement.
Our service assists early supported discharge initiatives and supports Telehealth programmes. It helps manage long term conditions so that patients receive care in the comfort of their own homes, and helps reduce avoidable acute admissions. It can be used to link patients, GPs and hospital specialists by video conference, markedly shortening the care pathways for the patient.
We provide all the hardware, software and training required on a per patient per month fee. It's a simple, cost effective service, and it's available now.

Case study: diabetes
Red Embedded Systems has been working in collaboration with Airedale NHS Foundation Trust Hospital and others to provide a system to deliver secondary care services using a Visual Care System. The system has been successfully used to allow diabetes patients to receive outpatient's consultations at home. It is also currently being used to support patients with respiratory disorder at home. This is both through outpatient calls and through calls into the regional hub.
Patients were delighted with the service. As one said, “the telemedicine literally brought tomorrow’s technology into my living room today; without any need to travel I can talk to my specialist! The system puts me in control of my diabetes care... it makes a huge difference to how I feel about my diabetes and therefore about myself.”
