Our visual care service
Red Embedded Systems’ service delivers video consultations using tried and tested technology, including a TV based system in patients’ own homes.
The service links patients at home to health and social care professionals in a hospital, GP practice or social care office. Patients can see and talk to their clinician, GP or care worker; clinicians can carry out a virtual outpatients clinic from their hospital or GP practice while social care professionals can choose to manage aspects of case work remotely.
We provide all the hardware, software and training required on a per patient per month fee.
Red Embedded Systems supplies the video consultation hardware, installs the system into the patient’s home and at the hospital/GP surgery/social care office and creates a link between the two via a broadband connection. The equipment in the patient’s home comprises a set top box and controller which are simple to operate and work through the patient’s own television. A PC application is installed at the clinicians or carer’s hub.

In addition to providing a video link for the clinician to see and speak to a patient during a remote consultation, the PC application also integrates with clinical workflow. It shows that patients are online and it is used as a virtual waiting room to assist preparing patients for their consultations.

The equipment in the patient’s home is a simple to operate set top box and controller, which work through the patient’s own TV. Designed to fit into the home environment, the system allows navigation of simple menus. The controller has a microphone and speaker allowing the patient to sit comfortably just as they would to watch television.
The set top box connects to a webcam, which sits on top of the TV, and to a domestic broadband connection, allowing the patient to see and talk to their clinician just as if they were physically in the same room. The set top box can also deliver interactive and video content defined by the clinician or carer.
