Red Embedded Design Unveils New Handheld Multimedia Videophone Product

Tuesday 4th September, 9am. Main

Red Embedded Design are showing the first model from a new generation of entertainment and communications devices at the 2007 IBC Trade Show in Amsterdam. The product, VPHS400, is handheld and provides for IP Telephony and Videophone functionality using a Wifi connection together with full web browsing and video streaming over the same broadband connection. When not in use the product can be used as a customisable Electronic Picture Frame. A full product specification is available on our web site.

The technology takes the functionality of the mobile phone, and expands it to use a quality 7" screen for both videophone and entertainment functionality. Red Embedded Design are currently demonstrating the technology to suppliers on a global scale and expect to work with partners to bring the product to market and customise it to meet individual operator requirements. Discussions are taking place with triple play operators, telecoms service providers and ISPs in the Americas and mainland Europe.

'The new product will be unique in a number of different ways' explains Director Rahul Mehra, 'the larger screen makes it ideal as a handheld entertainment device and the range of features exploiting broadband technology puts it right at the centre of a triple play operator's requirement to provide mobility for his service offering in the home.'

The product specification and software code base has been developed upon the successful deployment of Red Embedded's technology as the BT Videophone 1000, a more traditional desktop Videophone, featuring Voice Over IP, High Definition sound, caller I.D, fully featured phone book, and SIM card reader. This product won the award for 'Best Innovation 2007' from Insider Magazine sponsored by 'Invest In Bradford'.

The product can be seen in The Texas Instruments Suite B5 in Hall 1 at the RAI Exhibition centre in IBC Amsterdam or else by appointment with Red Embedded.
