Red Embedded Design Delivers Videophone

Tuesday 3rd March, 9pm. Main

Videophone development and technical consulting company, Red Embedded Design has delivered the Joice Videophone for Swedish service operator myJoice AB.

RED, in partnership with myJoice AB, have collaborated for over a year to develop and integrate key videophone technology into this exciting new service. The service, now launched commercially in Sweden, helps the elderly and infirm to keep in contact with their family, friends and carers.

Based on existing RED technology, including that developed for the BT Videophone 1000, the new product adds key features making it exceptionally easy to use. Installation and configuration are eased by a simple setup wizard and web based provisioning. Using an ordinary TV, the picture-based address book and one touch dialling allow calls to be placed to other videophones and PC clients, via an ordinary wired or wifi broadband connection.

RED have worked closely with Texas Instruments as a key technology provider for core silicon and will continue to work on advanced features over the coming months and years to ensure that myJoice AB and other customers have a roadmap going forward.

Stuart Griffin founding Director of Red Embedded Design led the project and adds, “We are delighted to be working with myJoice AB. Ours is an exciting international business and we are confident in demand for the service around the world. We at RED believe the videophone has a key role in improving the lifestyle of older people and allowing increasing numbers to remain at home and out of institutional care.’’

Johan Eckerstein President of myJoice AB agrees that ‘’With increasing numbers of older people often living lonely and difficult lives, we think there is a real need for the service myJoice AB now offers. RED have made a fantastic job of meeting our requirements for the key videophone product we needed. Between us I am confident we will really ‘make a difference.’ ’’

In addition to the Swedish launch, the Joice service is now trialling in the UK with the formal launch planned within first half 2009. Please contact RED for further details and the opportunity to sign up for service and obtain trial products.
