Red Embedded wins big at Venturefest Yorkshire

Bradford videophone development and technical consulting company, Red Embedded Design Ltd, was awarded top prize for ‘Best Growth and Prospects’ at Venturefest Yorkshire - the north’s biggest event for hi-tech entrepreneurs - yesterday.

Red Embedded took part in Innovation Showcase, which gave 50 of Yorkshire’s best young technology firms the opportunity to showcase their businesses, with a £13,000 prize package on offer for the firm showing the most potential for growth.

Red Embedded Design Ltd began trading in 2004, and now has two business units specialising in videophone design and development and engineering consultancy and technical services. Turnover and profitability have improved steadily over the last three years, with a turnover of £1.6m recorded in the last financial year. Chief technical officer, Rahul Mehra, says this growth is based on a stable international customer base with a high percentage of repeat business.

Now in its fifth year, Venturefest Yorkshire is a one-day event that aims to connect new and developing businesses with funding and other support needed to encourage their growth. The event is organised by York Professionals and supported by regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward.

Venturefest Yorkshire Innovation Showcase manager, Anne Salisbury, says, “It’s great to see Red Embedded progress from a small start-up to a stable business confident in its future and contributing to growth and employment in a high technology sector in our region.''

Red Embedded next generation products include the VPHS400, a WiFi handheld videophone with a range of entertainment and high end features and the VPTV400, a videophone aimed specifically to meet assisted living needs, giving the elderly and infirm a much improved means of communication with relatives, carers or medical professionals. The firm is currently looking for potential customers or partnerships in both of these areas and is also seeking staff to join its rapidly expanding team; in particular embedded software engineers.
